Indications / Uses :

For short-term, initial and maintenace therapy of acute but nonfatal and self-limited diseases, and for steroid tampering programs.

Short-term as well as prolonged corticosteroid therapy for noncritical and chronic disorders, maintenance therapy and steroid tampering programs.

Drenex is also indicated when total steroid requirement cannot be tolerated as a single dose or when continuous, large doses are needed as in severe acute cases.

Administration :

Should be taken with food.

Contraindications :

As in all other cortisone compounds, dexamethasone is contraindicated in active tuberculosis, when accompanied by specific chemotherapy in the control of overwhelming infection.

Special Precautions :

Dexamethasone should be given only with full cognizance of the type and activity of the disease and the patient’s response.

Use in pregnancy: Dexamethasone is not recommended during pregnancy.

Caution should be observed in patients with peptic ulcer, diabetes mellitus, psychotic tendencies, renal insufficiency, osteoporosis, hypertension, viral and pyrogenic infections, and glaucoma.

Dexamethasone should be used with great caution in patients with cognitive heart failure, diabetes mellitus, infectious diseases, chronic renal failure, uremia and in elderly persons.
